Microsoft will stop security updates and support for Windows 7 in January, but there's a way to keep using the OS safely.
Microsoft will officially end support for Windows 7 on 14 January 2020, meaning it will stop providing security updates and support after that date.
The good news is that Microsoft has announced that small businesses will be able to buy security updates for Windows 7 through January 2023. Previously, only businesses using Windows 7 Profession la or windows 7 Enterprise customers with volume Licensing were able to buy this extended security support.
You’ll need to ask for Windows 7 Extended Security Updates (ESU), which you can buy from 1 December this year from a Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider partner. Microsoft’s Windows 7 and Office 2010 End of Support FAQ has the fine print.
Keep in mind that support for Office 2010 will end on 13 October 2020, and at this stage Microsoft won’t be offering technical support, bug fixes and security fixes for it after that date.
