The NAS maker has updated its warning that a RAID-related software bug may corrupt data on some of its models.

UPDATE: Since publishing our original article, Qnap has updated the bulletin warning that a bug may corrupt data on some of its network attached storage models. We suggest that Qnap users read or, if you've already looked at it, re-read the bulletin.

Earlier this week, a technical bulletin published by storage vendor Qnap warned that a software bug may cause "silent data corruption" with RAID 5 or RAID 6 configurations.

If you're not using RAID 5 or RAID 6 on a Qnap network attached storage device, you can rest easy. But if you are, we suggest you immediately read that bulletin to find out whether you need to take action.

The bulletin lists the models that are not affected (suggesting that many more are affected), and the QTS software versions concerned.

The good news is that even where corruption has occurred, installing a more recent version of the software and enabling the 'RAID scrubbing' feature can fix the damage providing the RAID is not already degraded.

So read the bulletin and follow the required steps.
