The peer-to-peer car rental service has added new Subaru vehicles to its virtual fleet of privately owned vehicles.

About a year ago peer-to-peer car rental service DriveMyCar moved into the business market, allowing business people to rent a vehicle for periods from one week to one year.

The cars come from owners seeking another source of income while away on leave or who otherwise don’t need to use their vehicle, but DriveMyCar has now expanded its virtual fleet through an arrangement with Subaru. The car maker is providing ten Levorg wagons that are available in Sydney and Brisbane.

From Subaru's perspective, the deal gives people considering the purchase of a Subaru Levorg wagon the opportunity to take an extended “test drive” (though is it really a test drive if the customer is paying?)

“There's every chance we could expand it to other models, with the vehicles then returning to our Subaru used vehicle stock after a certain period, providing an additional pool for our dealer network, where demand is huge for used vehicles,” said Subaru Australia managing director Colin Christie.

DriveMyCar benefits from the publicity surrounding the arrangement as well as a precedent that may lead to other manufacturers joining the program. “We look forward to increasing brand awareness for this spectacular vehicle and expanding our relationship with Subaru to more models and locations,” said DriveMyCar CEO Chris Noone.

And DriveMyCar customers have a slightly wider selection of vehicles at their disposal.

A few months ago DriveMyCar struck a deal with Uber allowing UberX drivers to rent a suitable vehicle for as little as $179 a week, with accidental damage and theft cover as well as roadside assistance built into the price. The Levorg is included in this program.
