Xero is adding invoice reminders and billable expenses to its cloud accounting system.

As reported from XeroCon last month, Xero is adding a mechanism to automatically remind customers of unpaid invoices.

At that time, Invoice Reminders was expected to appear within the next 90 days. But just over a month later, that schedule has slipped to "the next few months."

But another new feature announced at XeroCon is already being rolled out.

Billable Expenses makes it easier to charge expenses to a particular client, whether that's a consultant recouping a taxi fare or an interior decorator on-selling a lamp or cushion to a client.

The initial rollout allows Xero users to mark bills and other items that are to be recharged to customers.

That will be followed in the next few weeks with the ability to mark bank account transactions to be marked as billable expenses, and billable expense reporting will be added.

Both these new Xero features are intended to help businesses improve their cash flow by encouraging prompt payment of invoices and helping to ensure that all rechargeable expenses are actually passed on to customers or clients.

"Knowing and managing cash flow is fundamental to the success of any business. We're always looking for ways to make that as easy as possible; with billable expenses and invoice reminders, we can help owners ensure not only that they get paid faster but that any expenses they do incur are managed correctly," said Chris Ridd, managing director of Xero Australia.
