There's one less player in the secure cloud storage market.

We mentioned LaCie's Wuala cloud storage service in our report on the company's PetiteKey waterproof USB storage device, our review of the 2big NAS, and most recently in our roundup of 11 file syncing services.

The bad news is that the company has decided to discontinue the service.

Wuala is no longer accepting renewals or selling additional storage space, and from 30 September 2015 customers will no longer be able to upload data to Wuala.

If you are a Wuala user, you have until 14 November 2015 to download your data. After that, all files will be deleted.

Wuala recommends using its Export Tool (subsequent changes to exported files are not synced back to Wuala) and storing the files on an internal or external hard drive, or another cloud service.

Wuala and Tresorit - another cloud storage provider - are jointly providing a migration program, and Tresorit is offering special pricing to Wuala users.

If you have an annual subscription to Wuala, watch out for an email from the company explaining how you can claim a refund. Refunds of less than ten US dollars, Swiss francs or Euros will not be made. Nor will there be any refunds in respect of subscriptions expiring before 30 September 2015 as the service will have been delivered in full.

We recommend Wuala customers read the company's notice about the shutdown process.  .
