iPad-wielding Xero users can now take advantage of a new version of the iOS app for the cloud accounting system.

According to Xero's research, the main reason for customers switching to Xero is the mobility enabled by cloud software, and nearly 70% of them use tablets in their business.
 
To date, iPad users had the choice of using Xero's regular web interface or an iOS app that was designed for the iPhone.

But version 2.6 of the free Xero app has been rejigged to take advantage of the larger screen when it is running on an iPad. 
 
It works in landscape and portrait orientations, makes it easier to reconcile transactions, and improves the user experience of cash flow reporting, reviewing payments and sending invoices, according to the company.
 
The update also includes a number of bug fixes, including some relating to the TouchID feature of recent iPhones and iPads.
 
Xero has also released three free iBooks providing tips and advice for small businesses in iBooks format: Accounting tips & tricks for your small business, Perfect payroll for your small business, and How to make invoicing easier for your business.
 
MYOB already offers its MYOB OnTheGo iPhone app that works with AccountRight and Essential Accounting, plus the AccountEdge app for iPhone and iPad that works with the Mac-based AccountEdge software.
