Ingogo is going to provide a card payment service for Xero users.
The ingogo service is used for taxi booking and payments, but if you're another type of small business you might still be able to make use of it.
Starting in early 2015 - though a beta version will be launched at the end of October - tradies, direct sales people and other small businesses will be able to accept payments on the spot through Bluetooth card readers connected to their smartphones or tablets.
Ingogo says there will be no monthly rental fee for the card reader, but were silent on the issue of any upfront cost or transaction charges.
When a payment is accepted through ingogo, it will be possible to apply it to a previously issued Xero invoice, or you'll be able to automatically generate and send a Xero invoice based on the payment.
Settlement will be on a next-day basis. That's 'next day' not 'next business day'. And accounting entries for the payments will be automatically handled by Xero.
The joint Xero-ingogo arrangement sounds as if it will be very similar to MYOB's PayDirect service.
