This new Telstra pre-paid 4G mobile hotspot might be useful if you regularly need to use fast broadband on the road.

Telstra will be continuing to upgrade and expand its 4G network by adding the ability to use the APT700MHz spectrum next year. They say it will provide better coverage and speed in regional areas and within buildings.

As part of that we can expect to see new devices hitting the market such as the Telstra Pre-Paid 4G My Pocket Wi-Fi Ultimate. This is a portable wireless hotspot that lets you easily share a 4G connection over WiFi with up to 10 other devices.

One of the neat features is that the device's screen has a link to Telstra's billing systems so you can see how much of your bandwidth has been used.

Devices such as this are very handy for mobile teams and those that are a little more security conscious. Given the choice between using a device such as this and a public WiFi hotspot, I'd much prefer the personal device as I can be more assured that no one is snooping my connection.
