If you're yet to make the switch to Office 365, the new Personal edition is a little bit cheaper.

Microsoft has announced the imminent release, during the second quarter of 2014, of Office 365 Personal.

It’s designed for an individual, allows for one PC or Mac and one tablet to be connected to the service and will be available for $89.00 AUD/year or $9.00 AUD/ month (ERP).

One of the issues small businesses face is the up-front cost of software. While they might use an application every day and see its value in their business, coming up with hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of dollars can be a real hit on cashflow. That's why subscription services are often a worthwhile option to consider.

In contrast, you can buy Microsoft Office from your local retailer for a starting price of around $140 for a Home and Student version or around $250 for a Home and Business version. But when a new version is released you'll need to pay roughly that price again for the upgrade.

While the subscription doesn’t offer a significant cost saving over three years, it does mean you don’t have to spend as much money up-front. It also means you'll get the updates as they become available.

Office 365 Home Premium will still be offered but it's being renamed to Office 365 Home.

All of the different versions of Office 365 include 60 minutes of Skype calling per month, 20 GB of additional OneDrive storage and free updates to the most recent version of Office.
