Shop owners, popular ecommerce platform Shopify has unveiled a cloud based point of sale (POS) system.
Shopify POS works with a card reader plugged into an iPad, so you can take credit cards in your shop, and works with a cash register and receipt printer. You can also send cutomised receipts to shoppers via email.
Importantly, products you add or remove from your inventory will also be reflected on your web site too, if you have one.
And as you'd expect, you control the system using the same interface as you do for your Shopify online shop.
While the Shopify POS is listed on the Australian homepage of the Shopify site, we are told the service is not yet available in Australia. We're still writing about it though because POS is so important to running a shop, and it's interesting to see another cloud based POS service hit the market.
The benefit of having your Point-of-Sale system in the cloud is that you can use a laptop or iPad as your terminal, rather than special POS hardware, which can sometimes cost a lot. Because the system runs online, you can access and look at the data wherever you have Internet access.
