Speeds of 25Mbps for downloads and 5Mbps for uploads are now available if you are using the fixed wireless NBN service.
If you are using NBN fixed wireless, or you know that's the NBN service earmarked for you suburb, you might be interested to know the speed has increased.
NBN fixed wireless users can now talk to your Internet provider about upgrading to a faster plan - speeds have increased to 25MBps for downloads and 5Mbps for uploads.
So how much will this cost? As we've explained before, prices vary according to which provider you use. For example:
- 25/5Mbps plans from Internode start at $54.95, compared with $49.95 for 12/1Mbps service
- at iPrimus the entry level prices are $49.95 and $59.95.
The NBN Fixed wireless equipment
Note that the two company's plans are not directly comparable as they include different amounts of data.
A key feature of the current NBN arrangements is that wholesale prices for a given speed are the same whether the service is delivered by fibre, fixed wireless or satellite.
Although the 25/5Mbps NBN service was formally launched today, it has been available to service providers since June. An earlier article we published about the speed increase is here.
It was recently revealed that NBN Co had decided to provide fixed wireless in a small number of regional areas that were originally to be serviced by satellite, and vice versa.
