Mr. Pretzels, which has over 200 kiosks around the world, will install Australian point-of-sale technology in two new Sydney kiosks, according to Kounta.
Point of Sale systems can be a sizeable investment for any small business owner, and due in part to their proprietary nature, often come with expensive ongoing support and perpetual license costs.
One of the new breed of these systems is from Kounta, an Australian company which we have learnt has been chosen by worldwide retail brand Mr. Pretzels for two Sydney Kiosks.
A Kounta spokesperson told us Kounta has been chosen for two Mr. Pretzels kiosks in Sydney - in Westfield Paramatta and Westfield Bondi Junction.
The Kounta rollout is limited to the two Sydney locations, not across the rest of the 200 international Mr. Pretzels kiosks. "We are proving the concept here in Australia with them," said the founder of Kounta, Nick Cloete.
One of the selling points is that it is cheaper to setup and run - while there is a monthly fee, Kounta users can opt to use iPads, Android tablets or a Windows laptop. Kounta's DIY approach promises to save on setup costs.
While this does promise savings, it also means that you will need to jump on Kounta’s online knowledge base or email the support desk if you’re in need of assistance.
You will also need to bring your own devices to the table.
Kounta’s POS software can also run on existing POS hardware or any other web-enabled device, removing the need to invest in additional hardware. Kounta also claims that it can connect with existing peripherals such as cash registers, thermal receipt printers and scanners via a Windows based application or an iPad App.
Kounta also works with other online and mobile platforms such as MYOB, Xero, and PayPal, keeping the financial data in sync between systems.
As there are no contractual obligations, Kounta can "scale up or down" month-to-month and even suspend your account temporarily, which could be handy for seasonal businesses.
