If they help you take the first step to creating a business plan, these 3 free business apps could be the most important things you download all year.

Perhaps the best things about these 3 free iPad apps for business owners is that they will get you to start putting in place some rudimentary forward-planning - something that’s great in theory, but something we often never get to in practice.

The apps are from the Australian Government web site business.gov.au. The idea is that you download them, and fill in the templates with your own business plan.

“Most small business people know what we’re doing and have a plan in our heads but it’s important to have it written down,” Peter Strong states on the business.gov.au site. A book shop owner and executive director of the Council of Small Business of Australia (COSBOA), Strong puts it this way: “if it’s only in your head, it’s hard to share with bank managers, investors, accountants or your fellow workers.”

There are three apps to download:

  • MyBizPlan
  • MyBizShield
  • MarketMyBiz

If you don’t have an iPad you can also download business plan templates for Microsoft Word.

The business.gov.au site also has these resources for creating an emergency recovery plan.
