The site 99designs has made a name for itself as a place to get a design for a logo, brochure, t-shirt, book cover, or business card or something else. Here is an introduction.

What is 99designs?
99designs is an online marketplace that brings together designers and businesses. The idea is that you put forward a design brief for something like a logo, business cards or a website that requires a designer. Potential providers bid to deliver the service.

What does it replace?
In the old days, you'd have to find a designer, provide a brief, wait for a quote and then haggle. With 99designs you provide a brief and what you're prepared to pay. Designers then come to you to do the work.

How much does it cost?
The cost is dependent on what sort of work you want done. However, many jobs are bid around the $500 mark.

BIT’s advice:
Design services are often difficult to procure and many SMBs are concerned that they aren't sure what they're going to get will meet the brief or budget. Services like 99designs add some certainty as you provide both the brief and price. However, it's important that you make the brief clear and set a realistic price.

Take a look at other briefs on the site before jumping straight in. Once you've found your feet, start by putting up a brief for a small job before embarking on a larger job.
