[While we highly recommend RAID devices and NAS boxes for certain situtation in small businesses where backups are needed, another cheaper option for some people is to get a simple external backup drive. Here is one that received a recommendation from our colleagues at PC & Tech Authority magazine.]
At first glance this backup-focused external drive from Seagate is just a standard GoFlex drive with a fancier box.
In many ways that is exactly what you get with the Backup Plus, with the addition of some handy Backup software that ships on the drive itself.
This package can handle proper system backups, and the 4TB capacity of our test unit will sate all but the largest desires for data retention.
Ultimately, given the sheer variety of software choices out there and the fact that Windows’ inbuilt backup facilities are quite robust, this means that we can take or leave the software package, but we do like the GoFlex concept, especially for those who build a collection of external drives.
This is a great solution for backups if the amount of data, or your internet connection, precludes the use of cloud services, and the combination of USB 3 and 4TB of space means you’ll get a lot of use out of it.
