The PayPal Here card reader to support chip and PIN transactions is now available from Officeworks.
PayPal announced a new version of its PayPal Here app and card reader to support chip and PIN transactions earlier this year , and the reader is now available from Officeworks.
The idea is to make it as easy as possible for businesses to start accepting credit or debit payments by MasterCard and Visa. The system also generates invoices and receipts.
"Now, anyone from a young entrepreneur to an established business owner will be able to head into Officeworks, purchase a payments terminal and accept card payments straight away," said Andrew Rechtman, senior director of SMB, retail and strategy at PayPal Australia.
The $139 reader is also available online from Officeworks or PayPal.
You also need an iPhone, iPad or Android device with the PayPal Here app, and you are required to sign up for the PayPal Here service in addition to having a PayPal business or premier account.
It would seem sensible to carefully consider the charges applying to the ongoing use of PayPal Here (1.95% for transactions through the card reader, 1.95% for PayPal check-in payments, 2.4% plus $0.30 for invoices sent through the app, and 2.9% plus $0.30 for key-in card payments) before signing up or buying the reader. You should reading the detailed terms and conditions, and we think it would be wise to ask about the settlement terms (how quickly your takings are accessible).
