Australia Post is working with cloud business software provider NetSuite so that routine tasks such as determining postage costs, getting a tracking number, printing a parcel label, and arranging collection can all be done within NetSuite's software.
It will even include arranging for delivery to one of Australia Post's parcel lockers or collection points if the customer doesn't want the parcel delivered to their home or place of work.
While these tasks can be performed by using Australia Post's web site, integrating them with the primary software used to run a business should prove a real timesaver as well as reducing the risk of error when manually transferring data between systems.
NetSuite's cloud ERP/CRM/ecommerce system is probably not the sort of thing that appeals to the typical BIT reader, but the company claimed this week that an increasing number of Australian companies are outgrowing MYOB and switching to NetSuite.
Before Kitchenware Direct - the first company to pilot the Australia Post/NetSuite integration - started using NetSuite in 2008 its revenue was less than $2 million, so NetSuite does seem to be relevant to the high end of the small business market.
As there was no suggestion that the tie-up between Australia Post and NetSuite is an exclusive arrangement, we look forward to seeing similar integration with systems from other providers such as MYOB and Xero.
