If you're not crazily cavalier, you probably protect your desktops and notebooks with security software, right? But what happens in the cloud?
Trend Micro's Cloud App Security already works with Office 365, checking for malware in documents, guarding against phishing attacks, and providing data loss prevention for email and file sharing.
Unlike other services, Cloud App Security scans emails sent between users in the same organisation.
The service is now being extended to protect Box, Dropbox and Google Drive.
The problem with such filesharing services is that an employee could, for example, receive a malicious document via a personal email account and save it to a shared Dropbox folder. From there, another employee might innocently forward it to a customer - not a good look, even if it is detected by the recipient before it does any harm.
Cloud App Security is itself a cloud service, and is intended to augment the security features of other services.
It works with Office 365 Business, Enterprise and Education editions; Box Business and Enterprise; Dropbox Business; and Google Apps for Work (Google Drive only).
Trend Micro has indicated that it plans to extend the range of cloud services that can be protected by Cloud App Security.
