Tech essentials: This 30-inch Kogan computer monitor is $699

Kogan's new 30-inch “Cinema Display” computer monitor is around half the price you might pay for a monitor of that size from some big brand names.

Kogan has released a new 30-inch “Cinema Display” computer monitor for $699, making it half the price of what you would expect to pay from big brand names such as Dell and Samsung.

In comparison, Dell currently has a sale on their 30-inch Ultrasharp monitor for $1,294 with fairly similar specs though the Dell does come with a soundbar and more USB ports and video inputs.

The Kogan IPS monitor has an 2560x1600 resolution (WQXGA), and comes with a DisplayPort, HDMI, VGA, and DVI in addition to 2 USB ports. The monitor also comes with an adjustable stand that is capable of 270 degree swivel and can also be used in portrait orientation with the inbuilt locking system.

The included warranty is also less for the Kogan model, with only 12 months (additional warranty can be purchased for $109) whereas the Dell comes with a 3 year warranty out of the box.

The monitor is available for pre-sale via the Kogan website with an expected shipping date of 21 October.

It’s also worth noting that the Kogan model does not list any colour accuracy specifications on their product page, which would be an important consideration for designers.

That said, if you’re after a big screen on the cheap for your desktop PC or laptop, you would be hard pressed to find a better deal.
