Skype has released a web-based management tool to allow organisations to deploy and manage Skype across their network..
Skype Manager, which replaces Skype's Business Control Panel, makes it simple for companies of all sizes to deploy the Skype client efficiently and effectively in the workplace, the firm said.
With Skype Manager, customers can create Skype user accounts across their organisation, and its administration dashboard can enable or disable features such as online numbers, subscriptions and voicemail by individual account.
The tool also incorporates a centralised payment system through which Skype Credit is purchased and allocated by the administrator, and real-time analysis and reporting capabilities to provide monthly spending reports at company, department or individual employee level.
"We looked at how Skype is being used in the workplace and specifically designed Skype Manager to make it easier for businesses to centrally control how Skype is used, managed and paid for by an organisation," said Skype's vice president for business, David Gurle.
Skype Manager is available as a free trial until the end of October.
The software can also be used to configure and manage Skype for SIP, the firm's tool for connecting a SIP-enabled PBX to Skype. The latter is currently available only as a public beta test version.
