Revealed: $1,000+ for Microsoft's Surface Pro in Australia, with keyboard

You'll pay more than $1,000 for Microsoft Surface Pro with a keyboard, Microsoft has officially revealed on its web site. Here is the sale date and prices for different models.

There will be two models of the Microsoft Surface Pro available in Australia, and while the price starts at $999, that's without the crucial accessory - the keyboard cover.

Microsoft has revealed its Surface Pro tablet will go on sale on May 30 in Australia, with two models available: a 64GB model for $999 and a 128GB model for $1,099.

The optional keyboards, which also double as covers (similar to the iPad cover), cost $149.99 for the Type Cover (which has actual buttons you can press down) and $139.99 for the Touch Cover (which has touch sensitive markings for keys, rather than actual keys). See photos and read our article about the Type Cover and Touch Cover here.

The Surface will be on sale online at the Microsoft Store web site, or in JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman.

The price is what we were expecting, and means that the Surface Pro is significantly more expensive than an entry level iPad and many Android tablets.

Unlike the iPad and Android tablets though, the Surface will come with an Intel Core i5 processor and runs Windows 8 Pro, not Windows RT as the cheaper Surface RT does. This means it is capable of running many desktop Windows programs which the Surface RT cannot.

It has a full HD 10.6 inch screen, 4GB RAM and weighs 903g. Here is a link to download the Surface Pro specifications.
