Putting the IT into fitness

What about software that helps personal trainers, yoga instructors and other wellness providers?

Here at BIT we tend to think about small businesses in terms of retail, hospitality, trades, and consulting-style operations such as bookkeepers, accountants and IT specialists. But unless you're living under a rock you will have noticed the growth in the fitness and wellness sectors in the last decade or so, whether that's group personal training (is that an oxymoron?) in your local park, the former office space that's now a yoga centre, or the milk bar that's been remodelled into a gym or spa.

And where there's a market opportunity, there's cloud software - or so it seems. Mindbody takes care of class and appointment scheduling, online bookings, point of sale, marketing campaigns, and more.

Prices start at $40 per month, but the more expensive plans add functionality that does sound valuable.

Examples include the ability to schedule classes and appointments rather than one or the other, automatic customer alerts (eg, when their membership expires or a payment attempt fails), support for loyalty programs, and an expanded range of reports.

Regardless of the plan chosen, Mindbody includes mobile apps for customers (manage schedules, book sessions, sign into classes, check payment history) and owners/managers (check your and your staff's schedules, sign up clients, process payments, examine reports, and more). The apps are available for iOS and Android.
