New Fuji Xerox printers make it easier to work in the cloud

The colour multifunction printers from Fuji Xerox allow users to seamlessly print from and scan to Dropbox, other cloud services and mobile devices.

The 14 models in Fuji Xerox's new ApeosPort-VI C and DocuCentre-VI C series feature the company's Cloud Service Hub to enable printing from or scanning to seven cloud services including Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, Evernote and Fuji Xerox's own services.

Cloud capabilities are becoming increasingly common on lower-end devices, but the Cloud Service Hub includes a single sign-on feature. When users authenticate themselves to one of these new multifunction printers via a PIN, swipe card or the optional face recognition feature, they can be automatically connected to individual or shared accounts on the supported services.

Another timesaving feature is that it allows searching across all the linked services.

Fuji Xerox calls this functionality Smart Work Gateway. "The Smart Work Gateway was developed in response to the rapidly growing demands of our customers – demands that conventional multifunction devices alone are unable to meet," said Fuji Xerox Asia Pacific president and CEO Masashi Honda.

"Based on this concept, Fuji Xerox underscores its role in accelerating business efficiencies. We will continue to expand the ecosystem through collaborations with more partners, enhancing the role of a multifunction device into a communications portal."

The Fuji Xerox Print Utility for iOS and Android supports printing from and scanning to the mobile device or cloud services. This means the new MFDs fit into organisations with bring-your-own-device (BYOD) policies, product marketing manager Paul Colarelli suggested.

The applications running on these multifunction printers are managed from the Windows-compatible Fuji Xerox Direct Management Console, explained Colarelli. This means a single PC can manage an entire fleet of the printers, adding or removing printer apps or installing firmware updates with drag-and-drop ease.

The console provides access to the Fuji Xerox Direct app store, which offers a range of connectors to cloud services including and SharePoint, on-demand print services, DocuShare content management, and more. At launch there were more than 15 apps, Colarelli said, some free and others paid, and with more to come.

The ApeosPort-VI C and DocuCentre-VI C series comprises 14 models with print speeds ranging from 25 to 70 pages per minute with scanning at up to 250 pages per minute.

They use Fuji Xerox's Super EA-Eco toner that features a lower fusing temperature to reduce electricity consumption and finer particles for higher quality images.

You need to request a quote for the new multifunction printers (Fuji Xerox wouldn't tell us), which probably means they don't come cheap.
