New business travel app integrates with Xero

The web and mobile app allows you to easily book and manage business travel – with no service fees.

Serko's new travel management application brings corporate-style travel bookings to smaller businesses with up to 150 employees.

Accessible via the web or iOS and Android apps, allows users to make domestic, trans-Tasman and international bookings, including flights, hotels, hire cars and airport transfers.

"It’s a completely new way for businesses to manage business travel that will help businesses save money," said Serko CEO Darrin Grafton.

Additional benefits for mobile users include online and offline access to entire itineraries; alerts for gate changes, delays and cancellations; and luggage tracking (requires locator beacons; function already included in the iOS app and being added to the Android version in September). The iOS version includes Apple Watch support.

Apart from the convenience of self-service travel (which also reduces admin costs), improves policy compliance, for example by imposing a maximum nightly rate for hotel accommodation. It also makes it easy to see where travelling staff are at a given time (in case of an emergency, for example), and integrates with the Xero cloud accounting software.

"The integration between the systems allows travel booking data from to flow seamlessly into Xero, streamlining and simplifying the process of reconciling credit card statements," said Xero managing director Anna Curzon.

Cameron Beattie, managing director of cloud communications specialist Conversant, said “We trialled and it is fantastic. I signed up and had made my first booking in a couple of minutes. The real benefit to us is having everything in one place. We now officially have a travel policy and it’s saved us so much time. To be honest, I can’t believe no-one’s thought to do this before. It just makes so much sense.”

According to Serko, taps into all the key travel providers, including Air New Zealand, Qantas, and Wotif.

In situations where personalised support is required, users can get offline expert support from Helloworld for Business, Corporate Traveller and Flight Centre Business Travel on a fee for service basis.
