MYOB launches Xero, QuickBooks data conversion service

Even if you can export all your data from the old software and import it into the new, it's not a task for the faint-hearted.

Moving data from one piece of accounting software to another is rarely easy.

One strategy sometimes used is to switch between programs at the start of a financial year and merely enter the account balances in the new program.

The problem with that approach is that you can't see all of your financial history in one place. Worse, if you move from a cloud service you may lose access to your data unless you export it all before your subscription lapses.

Even if you can export all your data from the old software and import it into the new, that's not a task for the faint-hearted as you'll need to carefully check that the process has worked correctly. So rather than making the import of data to AccountRight Live from Xero or QuickBooks a DIY job, MYOB is offering a conversion service through some of its partners.

The initial MYOB Conversion Services Partners are 2Peas, Love Your Numbers, Ebiz Solutions, Administration Made Easy and Freedom Accounting Support. Although that's one per state, they all can service clients around the country.

We note that an introductory offer provides six months free use of AccountRight Live if you use MYOB Conversion Services by the end of October 2013.

2 Peas' Pam Madytianos is quoted in an MYOB press release: "We've been heavily involved in working with MYOB during the conversion services development phase and we now specialise in it. We're converting large numbers of clients, generally within 2-3 days of gaining access to the client's old files."

She added "we are able to bring across all the historical data across, plus all their open bills and invoices, and all their customer, supplier and employee data. Because we are a long-standing MYOB consultancy business, we know the best way to set up the new MYOB files for clients. They not only get all their historical data, but also get a file that is set up in accordance with best practice."
