The number of add-ons for the popular accounting software MYOB AccountRight Live is likely to increase.
The reason is more than 800 developers are taking part in an API program.
So what's an API? The term is short for 'application programming interface' and the simplest way of thinking about it is that an API specifies how other programs can 'talk' to the one in question. For example, the ServiceM8 field service app uses the API to tell AccountRight Live to generate an invoice for the job just completed by the user.
Other interesting examples include more advanced reporting than the options built into AccountRight Live, as well as links between the accounting program and job management, attendance management, POS, eCommerce and CRM software.
As a general rule, the ability to integrate the various pieces of software used in your business will save time and reduce errors.
MYOB plans to release a new version of the AccountRight Live API during the second quarter, providing access to timesheet and payroll functions. MYOB chief technology officer Simon Raik-Allen thinks this will encourage the development of more integrations via the API.
