Find out if the new Square for Restaurants point of sale software is the right fit for your business.
If you’re looking to run your café or restaurant more efficiently, one of the key steps you can take is to upgrade to a modern point-of-sale (POS) system for managing orders and table bookings, tracking sales, managing staff and other functions.
Square offers a POS app which has a general retail focus, but now the company is offering a version called Square for Restaurants.
The new version is designed for “full-service restaurants, bars and lounges” and is the company’s “most sophisticated industry-specific software solution”.
The software can handle different menus for different times of the day, customer floor plans, real-time sales and shift reports, tips and bill spitting, and track staff time and performance.
It also offers a variety of reports, including sales by time of day, comps and voids.
And because it’s cloud based, you can update menus and floor layouts across multiple terminals in one go.
It costs $129 per month per location, but it can be used on unlimited devices. You’ll need to buy those devices separately (the software only runs on iPads).
You’ll also need a separately card payment terminal. Square charges $59 for its Square Reader, plus 1.6 per cent of each Visa, Mastercard, American Express, eftpos or international credit cards transaction.
