Microsoft Office is now free for some charities

Microsoft has announced that eligible Australian non-profit organisations and charities can now access Office 365 free of charge or at highly discounted prices.

Office 365 is the online version of Microsoft's flagship office suite. For commercial organisations, pricing starts at $5.61AUD per month per user.

For qualifying organisations (you'll need to apply here), they can either get Office 365 for free or at a discounted rate of $2USD per month per user. For example, World Vision received $4M of licensing as a donation from Microsoft.

Microsoft has been donating software to non-profits and disaster recovery services for some time. So the donation program isn’t new. However, the availability of cheaper pricing is a step forward for not for profit businesses that don’t qualify for a donation.

Further information on pricing of Office 365 for non-profit companies is here.
