If you’re looking to compare your online store against best practice, you could do worse than look at this Australian business.
If you run an online retail business, it’s important to keep up with ecommerce best practice.
One way of doing that is to keep an eye on who is winning awards for their online stores – such as the winners of the 2019 Australia Post Online Retail Industry Awards (ORIAS), which were announced this week.
Interestingly, the winner of the Online Retailer of the Year award was not a high-profile retailer of fashion, cosmetics or wine.
It was the site Tinyme, which sells personalised kids gifts, such as bags, labels, photo stickers, books and clothing. The judges deemed the business the “best of the best in Australian online retailing in 2019”.
Tinyme also won the award for the Best Social Commerce Initiative, which recognises innovation and effectiveness. The judges looked for initiatives that used social networks for brand building, customer service and as a sales channel.
A business called Scratch won the Best Small Independent Retailer award, which is open to businesses with 2-10 employees and up to $10 million in annual revenue. Scratch offers “super-premium dry dog food, delivered to you by subscription” and touts its ability to use data to know when customers need a new delivery. The judges looked for evidence of best practice in ecommerce, innovation and growth, and an effective business strategy.
Even if your business isn’t large, you could also learn from high profile ORIA winners, such as retailer The Iconic. It won the Best Online Retail Marketing award, which recognised multi-channel site design and integration, focussing on useability and conversion optimisation.
