Looking for a tough phone? Telstra is readying the Tough Max 3

Telstra is pitching the new phone at tradies and people working in rural locations.

If you’d rather not pay top-dollar for a high-end smartphone and you work outdoors, then it might be worth considering a “tough” phone.

Late last year we brought you news about the $199 Nokia 800 Tough. Now, Telstra has announced it will start selling the Tough Max 3 on 14 January 2020 for $499 outright or on a plan.

Like some other tough phones, the Tough Max 3 has an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance (you can submerge it to 1.5 metres for 30 minutes).

It has a bigger battery than the Tough Max 2, which is reportedly capable of a day’s usage.

Telstra is also highlighting the Tough Max 3’s facial recognition feature, which it claims is useful for unlocking your phone without touching the screen (potentially useful if you have dirty hands or you’re wearing gloves).

The Tough Max 3 also has USB-C charging, NFC and a fingerprint sensor.
