LogMeIn won't be free for long

We recommend LogMeIn, so it's a shame to see that it looks like the software, which is handy for connecting to your work computer while you're at home or travelling, won't be free much longer.

As reported by iTnews, LogMeIn Free will end, with users asked to pay for a "premium" version. You'll get 7 days to upgrade to the non-free version from the time you next login to LogMeIn. This will also affect you if you use the LogMeIn app for iPad and iPhone or Android - called Ignition -though there discounts and "generous terms" being talked about for Ignition users.

There are various other "remote desktop" programs, including a few we listed here. In basic terms, the free version let you connect to another computer, while the paid version  lets you copy from the remote computer or print to a remote printer, as well as other more sophisticated things. Some of the extra features are mentioned here.

LogMeIn still has some free software you might find useful: join.me is for screen sharing and Cubby, which is a cloud storage tool.

Some have pointed out there are alternative free options if you're not prepared to pay money.
