These three videos introduce lodging your BAS online. They are general in nature, but they might at least help point you in the right direction.
Lodging your BAS online makes processing easier for the ATO, and it might save you time and money.
So how do you do it?
We noticed a tweet by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) today about this - the ATO has created these three videos showing you how to lodge your BAS online. You can see the videos below.
Don't expect a lot of detail. What you get is a basic intro. The "casual" style might be a little much for some of you, but if you can get past that, the videos cover:
- Getting an AUSkey (the electronic identity used for dealing with the ATO and other government agencies),
- Reasons for lodging the BAS online
- Using software that can automatically lodge online via Standard Business Reporting
A walkthrough of the online lodgement process would be a useful addition to the videos, which are more propaganda than education.
One advantage of lodging online is that you can easily see any errors detected in your return and then correct them without going through the otherwise lengthy procedure. Another is that it may extend your deadline for lodgement and payment.
It also saves the cost of the stamp that would be needed to lodge by post.
The videos are quite short - around two and a half minutes each - though in our opinion there is quite a lot of padding and they could probably have been about 90 seconds or less without losing any information.
