How Google Drive storage costs compare now to Dropbox

When it comes to cost per GB, Google Drive is the clear winner, particularly if you need lots of space.

Google Drops the Price of Cloud Storage

Almost everyone we know and work with uses some form of cloud storage. While many services have a free entry point, once you hit the edge of the free service you'll need to either start culling files or paying for more capacity. Google has announced that they've significantly reduced the cost of their paid options.

Google's pricing is now $1.99 for 100GB (previously $4.99), $9.99 for 1TB (previously $49.99), and $99.99 for 10TB.

We've put together a quick comparison of the three most popular cloud storage services so you can see where the best bang for buck lies to meet your storage needs.

Free offering

Cost for 100GB

Further Expansion

Google Drive

15GB

$1.99AUD/month

1TB costs $9.99AUD/month

10TB costs $99.99AUD/month

Microsoft OneDrive

210GB costs $100AUD/year

Dropbox

2GB (but you can get more by referring friends)

$9.99USD/month

500GB costs $499USD/year

(Prices as of 14 March 2014)

When it comes to cost per GB, Google Drive is the clear winner, particularly if you need lots of space.

However, it's worth noting that Microsoft's offerings can be bundled with Office 365 and their other cloud services so you can get other services, as well as storage, for your investment.
