Handy phone app for taking a quick, neat photo of a document during a meeting

No time to use a scanner? Whip out your phone and grab a quick copy during a meeting.

Some small businesses we know that only need to scan the occasional document have given up on traditional scanners and instead use smartphone apps such as Turboscan for iOS.

The main advantage of such apps over simply taking a photo is that they automatically crop to the edges of the document and then straighten and deskew the result.
 
A newcomer to this market is Hamrick Software's VueScan Mobile. The app was originally released in January as a way of controlling many Wi-Fi enabled scanners from an Android device, but a new update has added camera scanning.
 
VueScan Mobile performed reasonably well in our brief trial, but gave better results with smaller items such as business cards and receipts as opposed to full A4 pages, though that may depend on the quality of the camera in the device.
