Gold Coast businessman creates petition protesting Jetstar "booking and service" fee

Tired of being slugged with credit card surcharge fees? You may sympathise with this man.

One business owner took the matter into his own hands - delivering a petition with 36,000 signatures to the headquarters of Jetstar.

Gold Coast businessman Klaus Bartosch, who said he was fed up with the excessive credit card surcharge fees in Australia, set up the online petition.

“I posted a petition against what I regard as the latest retail scourge in Australia - credit card surcharges that are unique to this country. Jetstar's surcharge amounts to around 20% of their published airfare price! They deny it is a surcharge because they call it a ‘Booking and Services Fee’ - but it only applies when you pay by credit card,“ he said.

"This is just the beginning. This will not go away and the petition will continue to grow as more and more Australian's realise how serious an issue this really is."

As we have reported previously, credit card surcharges have been the subject of controversy. Changes have been introduced to limit these surcharges.
