You will be able to register new domain names for your business this year. Read on to find out what they are.
If your business has a web site, then this article we spotted over at Digital Business might be worth reading.
As the article points out, in the middle of this year a whole pile of new domain names (or gTLDs) will be made available.
What does this mean for you?
- You’ll be able to register domain names like “.hotel”, “.shop” and “.lawyer”, for example).
- You'll also be able to register domains for your business location. For example, if you’ve registered www.joespizza.com.au, you could also register www.joespizza.adelaide and www.joespizza.shop.
In the past, the generic Top Level Domain (gTLD) - the technical name for the three letters that come after a company name in a website address - wasn’t very descriptive.
For example, “.com” was for businesses, “.gov” was reserved for the government, “.edu” was kept aside for schools an universities and so on.
If you have a website, we’d suggest keeping an eye on when the new gTLDs are released and register the ones relevant to your business.
