Vend's new app for iPhones and iPads is designed to make inventory counts easier.
Vend's free Counter app uses your iOS device's camera to scan product codes and simplify inventory counts when processing deliveries and transfers, or during stocktakes.
Each count is automatically timestamped, so it is not essential to do the whole job in one pass. Items can be entered manually if their barcodes are damaged or missing.
Counter (not to be confused with Vend's POS rival Kounta) generates a CSV file containing names, quantities and SKU information. This can be imported into most point of sale, inventory or retail management programs.
"I don't think I've ever met a retailer who enjoys doing inventory counts. They usually involve late nights, long hours, and a lot of errors and backtracking," said Vaughan Rowsell, founder and chief product officer at Vend.
"Many stores are still using pen and paper to do their stock taking which is just crazy - store owners and managers are busy and counting all their products manually takes a huge amount of time out of the business. We really want to change that."
The company plans to release further free tools that can be used in conjunction with Vend and possibly other business software, he added.
