If you know on electrician, plumber, IT technician, real estate agent or anyone who works "on the road", this could be interesting to them.
We're often bringing you news of apps and services that give you technology tricks similar to the ones big businesses use. Here's another...
It's called ServiceM8 and it's software that can help assign jobs to workers who operate on the road on job sites - the video claims it's suitable for IT technicians, electricians, real estate agents, mechanics, pool cleaners, security services, pest controllers.... the list goes on.
It joins other apps that do similar things, including Connect2Field and GeoOp.
ServiceM8 lets you allocate jobs or requests for quotes to staff members. It can produce daily schedules with work orders and route maps, and sends alerts via SMS or an iPhone/iPad app if a new job is allocated during the day.
To make life easier for staff travelling between jobs, the ServiceM8 app integrates with the Navigon GPS app to provide turn-by-turn directions, voice notifications of important events such as new jobs let them keep their eyes on the road, and the system offers to send the client an SMS notification that a staff member is on their way.
The system of 'badges' (icons) lets you record and see any special job requirements such as equipment for working at certain heights. ServiceM8 stores a history of each job for future reference, including photographs if desired.
ServiceM8 integrates with MYOB and Xero, so items and clients sync automatically and invoices can be sent from ServiceM8. If you prefer, invoices can be produced completely within ServiceM8 and printed or emailed to the client.
The charges seem modest to us, and they are based on the number of jobs and quotes processed during the month (if a quote turns into a job, you are only charged once), plus 8c for every SMS sent. The first 20 jobs and quotes are free. After that, the charge depends on the total number of jobs during that month, starting at 50c for up to 100 jobs and progressively falling to 35c each for up to 500 jobs. Prepayment discounts are available.
