ABC show searches for "the most expensive Wi-Fi"

We all know wi-fi in hotels can be expensive when you're travelling for work. But how expensive?

Hotel Wi-Fi is often amongst the most expensive things you can add to your room service.

We've previously published guides to hotels with free Wi-Fi in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Now we've noticed the ABC's consumer affairs program The Checkout has recently covered off the five most rort-tastic Wi-Fi services its viewers can find.

So how bad is bad value Wi-Fi really?

The Checkout's video - there's a sadly un-embeddable clip which you can view here - lists various destinations and their Wi-Fi charges. Mantra Hotel at Mooloolaba Beach, for example, charges $12.50 an hour.

It seems clear that if you need Internet access, especially in Sydney, tether your phone or invest in a Wi-Fi hotspot. Even at the high charges you hit for mobile data, unless you're uploading video or high-resolution photography, you can do better than this!

Have you seen prices worse than this, or any particular strategies you employ to remove the sting of needing to be online while you're working away from your office?
