Xero adds Apple Pay to invoices through Stripe

The cloud accounting provider now offers a secure new way for businesses to accept payment from Apple users.

The latest in a string of new features added over the past week, Xero now allows businesses to accept invoice payments using Apple Pay through Stripe.

The new feature will automatically be made available to all businesses using Xero and Stripe in markets where Apple Pay is available, including Australia.

As with earlier payment platform integrations and add-ons, the integration will allow customers to pay for goods and services directly from the invoice.

Rather than needing to manually enter their credit card information, Apple Pay customers receiving an invoice will be able to use a fingerprint ID on an Apple device to confirm their payment quickly.

Because all payments using Apple Pay require either a fingerprint or a passcode, the integration should also lead to fewer cases of fraud and chargebacks.

Transactions using Apple Pay are automatically entered and matched against invoices, making the reconciliation process easier for business owners.

“Attaching a payment option to online invoices helps Xero customers get paid almost 80% faster than invoices that don’t use a payment service — so they spend less time chasing unpaid invoices for a more productive and cash healthy business,” Xero chief technology officer Craig Walker said.

“By enabling these connections with payment services, small businesses are able to offer multiple payment options on an invoice, giving them and their customers choice of payment and also the ability to pay the invoice as soon as it arrives, ensuring they get paid faster.”

The new feature is the latest in a number of major updates for Xero, with the cloud accounting provider launching its new Xero HQ system for accounting practices last week.

It was followed earlier this week by the launch of Xero’s Facebook Messenger chatbot and advisor directory, which makes it easy for businesses to find local accounting practices.
