4 interesting ecommerce sites you might not know about

See the roll call of ecommerce sites that are finalists in next week's ORIA's ecommerce awards in Sydney.

If you have a web site, you're thinking of starting one, or just new to the whole ecommerce game, take a look at the list below.

It's a selection of ecommerce sites we found that you mightn't have heard about - we picked them as each one is a finalist in a gala ecommerce awards evening being held in Sydney next week called ORIA - Online Retail Industry Awards.

Browsing these sites, it's interesting to look at things like the page design, the ordering process, the marketing methods…if you're still struggling to get your site ship-shape, then these sites might get you thinking:

  • http://www.zanui.com.au/ - this site hedges its bets, selling furniture plus homewares and baby and  kids items like cots and toys. The site claims to have more than 20,000 products and "500+" brands. Slick, clean layout and design, and we notice a prominent 1300 phone number customers can call.
  • http://www.herfashionbox.com/ - here's an interesting idea: this site lets visitors signup for a monthly box of items like makeup, skincare, perfume, and offers from the likes of spas and other high end "lifestyle" brands. The boxes cost $39.95 and are delivered each month. This site makes an effort to be more than just a sales pitch, with an emag, videos ("how to use a hair donut") and a gallery of street fashion snaps. Good for SEO no doubt.
  • http://www.tinyme.com.au/ - this site selling cute gifts for kids was started in a spare bedroom and now has a healthy email subscriber list, overseas operations and quite a few staff (when we interviewed them a few months ago).
  • http://www.eatnow.com.au/ - we were introduced to this site recently. It's interesting as we hear lots of takeaway food shops are signing up with them, meaning they can now take orders online from customers.

There are plenty of other finalists in next week's awards with high profile names, like SurfStitch and The Iconic.

The ORIA awards are being held as part of next week's Online Retailer Conference & Expo. You can read our article about the event here.
