LinkedIn recently announced several new ways to get noticed on its site. While we wouldn't describe them as game-changers, some people may find them handy.
List your services
LinkedIn allows users to filter search results by service providers in a certain area. To be seen in those searches, LinkedIn recommends you customise your profile by selecting the “Showcase services you offer” feature and listing your services. You can also tell LinkedIn where you offer those services and if you’re available to work remotely. LinkedIn is pitching this as a way for businesses and freelancers to find new customers.
Take a LinkedIn Skills Assessment
LinkedIn is rolling out a “Skills Assessment” feature, which allows users to take a test to earn a badge they can use to show proficiency. This usually involves answering 15-20 questions about a specific topic within a time limit.
We note that not everyone has access to LinkedIn Skills Assessments yet.
Use LinkedIn’s new events feature
Using LinkedIn to promote events might create new opportunities to communicate with your network. For example, you can communicate with attendees via the event feed, and invite attendees to connect with you on LinkedIn if you’re not already connected.
Your event attendees can also send invitations (if you give them permission) which can expand your network. Anyone can join events, but not everyone can create them yet.
