3 handy work apps for FileMaker users

More handy apps, including a database for your contacts, a logbook for real estate inspections and a small business planner.

We've mentioned several handy uses for Filemaker and related apps for getting things done at work, including using it for filing taxi receipts, inventory, customer contacts and time billing.

We've also been alerted to a web site where you can find many handy apps like these to use with Filemaker. It's called Made for FileMaker.

The site has 130 applications developed by members of the FileMaker Business Alliance (FileMaker vets applicants' references and a sample of their work, so FBA membership does count for something).

There are apps for real estate, retail, creative professionals and other tasks. There are also things like CRM and time tracking.

Examples include:

Other categories include card and barcode readers that work with FileMaker, and books and training videos about basic and advanced aspects of FileMaker.

If your business wants to create a custom application using FileMaker, the catalogue also covers plug-ins and integration modules. For example, you mght want to use an iPhone as a barcode reader for FileMaker Go apps, to connect FileMaker with the iCal/Calendar application, and to generate charts from data stored in FileMaker.

There are also developer tools, such as a replacement for FileMaker Go's signature capture, and a utility for synchronising databases between FileMaker Go or FileMaker Pro with FileMaker Server.

At this stage there seems to be a lack of Australian products listed on the site, but with luck that will improve. There are plenty of FileMaker Business Alliance members in this country.
