Vaya has cut the price of its unlimited plan following the launch of a $20 Coles pre-paid option.
Hot on the heels of Coles' announcement of a $20 recharge that provides unlimited national talk and text for 28 days, Vaya has reduced the price of its Unlimited S plan from $20 to $16 a month.
The main differences are that the Vaya plan is post-paid and includes 1GB of data, while Coles offers 2GB of data and is pre-paid. Alternatively, Vaya’s $22 Unlimited M plan includes 2GB of data.
Both services run on the Optus 4G Plus network.
The Vaya Unlimited plans are described as being for "personal use only" but as previously reported, Optus's attitude is that the use of one plan for business and personal purposes is acceptable providing the selected plan reflects the main use and the number of calls is in line with those made by a normal person rather than a call centre or similar operation.
Meanwhile, the Coles $20 Prepaid option compares favourably with the likes of Amaysim's $24.90 28-day pre-paid, which provides slightly less data (1.5GB) but does include unlimited mobile calls to 10 countries and unlimited texts to 32 countries.
If international calling is important to you, Coles has another new option. A $40 recharge adds 250 minutes to China, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, UK and US. It also includes 7GB of data.
Either way, data top-ups are available at $5 for 500MB, which is in line with the going rate ($10 per GB) across most providers, but the 7-day expiry is somewhat restricting.
