Every year in January, the world's big gadget manufacturers gather at the CES gadget expo in Las Vegas to show off what's coming for the new year. There are literally thousands of products on show, but we've already spotted these intriguing and hopefully practical gadget ideas.
Photo above: IP cameras can be handy for keeping an eye on your home office. This one is different because it doesn't need cables - you can plonk it down anywhere within range of its special wireless gateway. The Netgear web site suggests the camera, called the VueZone, will run on batteries for about six months with normal usage. You can also now get a new night vision camera add-on. There's one catch - it only records when you're watching or if you schedule a recording, so the camera is not intended to be used as a security device. You also need to sign up to a plan that allows you to watch over the Internet. Still, it's a sign of where home monitoring can go - at the least, it might give some peace of mind to be able to check in and keep tabs when you're away. (Photo JOE KLAMAR/AFP/Getty Images)
