Canon adds to refillable inkjet range with G4600

The Canon Endurance G4600 is the second Pixma multifunction printer to feature more economical refillable tanks.

Late last year we reported Canon's entry into the bottled ink segment of the inkjet printer market with the G3600 that was made available exclusively through Harvey Norman.

The company has decided to share the love around by making the follow-up model – the Endurance G4600 – this time exclusive to Officeworks.

We’re not big fans of exclusive distribution arrangements. After all, if you can’t buy the product elsewhere, you can’t compare prices or take advantage of the retailer’s price-matching guarantee.

Still, the Endurance G4600 is multfunction printer that has plenty going for it, including the use of refillable bottled ink, which is generally more economical than cartridges over the longer-term.

Like the G3600, it has a yield of up to 7000 colour pages or 6000 black and white pages from one set of ink bottles, using the Pixma hybrid pigment/dye ink system for what the company says is darker and sharper black text combined with vibrant colours. Unlike the G3600, however, the G4600 includes a 20-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF) for copying and scanning.

Other features include borderless printing up to A4 with a maximum resolution of 4800 by 1200 dpi; fax capability; USB and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi interfaces; support for AirPrint, Google Cloud Print and Mopria in addition to Canon's printing apps; plus access to Dropbox, Facebook, Google Drive Instagram and SlideShare via the Pixma Cloud Link service.

The G4600 will go on sale in mid-February for $559.
