This simple little drive is available in six exotic shades, as well as sober black and silver models. Our sample was Eucalyptus Green, but in our view the tasteful metallic design looks great in any colour. It feels tough enough to withstand the bumps and scratches of a backpack, and the blue access light at the rear lets you see when the drive is on and working without being distracted in everyday use.

The Store ‘n’ Go looked good in our speed tests, too, placing among the top performers in three of our four exercises, and giving a particularly strong showing in the taxing small-file write test, a test which exposed some severe weaknesses in some of the other drives in the labs this month.

Best of all, the price works out at a very low 11c per gigabyte for the 750GB model, and includes a copy of Nero’s BackItUp & Burn software. If you need more storage, the 1TB model can be bought online for around $105 – it’s pricier than a couple of the other 1TB drives here, but not by any significant amount. In its mid-range capacity, though, Verbatim’s Store ‘n’ Go is an unbeatable package.
