Facilities services provider Spotless Group and startup accelerator network Startupbootcamp are hosting the Spotless Hack @ the 'G in Melbourne on 21-22 November.
The 'hackathon', to be held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, is looking for tech ideas in the areas of catering and food services, facility maintenance, cleaning and waste management, and security.
Up for grabs are a $10,000 cash prize, six months of space at Startupbootcamp, access to Amazon Web Services, and Sigfox low-energy network development kits.
Support will be available from technical experts, mentors and fellow hackers.
Spotless is involved because it has identified fostering innovation as a key priority.
“We are collaborating with universities, startups, suppliers, research institutions and our customers to become a smarter Spotless,” said the company's general manager of brand, innovation, and technology Julian Fogarty.
“Many emerging trends like IoT, are quickly becoming disruptive forces in our industry and for our customers, we want to be at the forefront of developments. From smart beacons to drones to robots, the capability for objects to communicate and interact with each other and with the public has the potential to completely transform the services and experiences we offer our clients.”
Startupbootcamp was founded in Copenhagen in 2010. Since then it has expanded internationally to become one of the world's top three accelerators, and will set up in Melbourne in 2017.
Startupbootcamp Melbourne managing director Trevor Townsend said: “We are delighted to be offering some really interesting business challenges that the tech and startup community wouldn't normally encounter. IoT makes Things come Alive and we are looking forward to showing how leading-edge thinking and digital technology will continue to improve and enhance service delivery. This will ultimately benefit Spotless customers and the wider community, from spectators at sporting venues such as the MCG through to people's experiences at airports.”
