Remember, Microsoft Office 2013 doesn't come a CD or DVD

If you're planning on buying the new Microsoft Office in a shop, be aware that it probably won't come on a CD or DVD

[UPDATE: Microsoft has since contacted us about this. They now state that Office 2013 is available on DVD in Australia, if a retail shop chooses to sell it on DVD (we haven't found it on DVD yet). Office 365 is not available on DVD. Click here to read the article about this.]

If you are someone who simply must have their software on CD or DVD then be aware that from what we can see, you probably won't find Microsoft Office 2013 on disc in shops in Australia.

After reading this article, we checked with a number of retail stores including Dick Smith in George Street Sydney, Harvey Norman in Rothwell Queensland, JB Hi-Fi in Doncaster Victoria, Officeworks in Pitt Street Sydney and the North Ryde Harris Technology store.

In each case we were told that Office 2013 sold in their stores only came with a serial key for activating the software online along with a URL for downloading the 650MB software that would usually come in a DVD format.

Although at our local Harvey Norman store we did see a “DVD” sticker on the box of the software, despite the installation disc being absent from the package.

Office 2013 can also be purchased and downloaded directly from the Microsoft online store.

We are checking with Microsoft to confirm if this indeed the case across all Australian retail stores selling Office 2013.

It's something to keep in mind when buying your next laptop. Do you really need a DVD drive in your new laptop?
