Quirky marketing idea #6: drive-by marketing

Is there a crime problem in Wise Virginia? We don’t know, but the local laundry has you covered in any case.

In this age of social marketing and Google Adwords, it’s heartening to see that it’s still possible to turn to an old-fashioned sign to get noticed - at least in your local community.

We spotted this photo on a wire service we subscribe to - it was apparently taken recently in the town of Wise, Virginia, described as a “typical” laundry by the wire service. The town itself has a population of less than 3,500 and is described here as a place with “small town charm and friendliness” offering a “gourmet coffee shop, a restaurant with banquet facilities and civil war decor, several lounges, a ladies boutique, spa services, and a showcase featuring the works of over 50 local artisans and craftsmen.”

Churches have been having fun with signs that have moveable letters for years, but we’re scratching our head to think of other businesses that still use them. Any ideas?
